How to Price Thrift Store Finds for Resale (Without Guessing)

Share to
Pricing is where most new flippers lose money—either by overpaying at the thrift store or by listing so high that nothing sells.
Anchor to recent sold comps
Find 3–5 comparable sold listings with similar brand, size, and condition. Use the median as your expected sale price. Active listings can inspire, but sold prices decide.
Work backward from fees
Subtract platform fees, payment fees, shipping materials, and your target profit. The remainder is your maximum buy price. If the thrift tag is above that number, pass.
Choose speed or max profit
Price near the median for faster sells. Price higher only when comps support scarcity or premium condition. Stale inventory is a hidden cost—cash stuck on a shelf cannot buy the next winner.
Price in the aisle with better data
Typing product names under fluorescent lights is slow. Photograph the item and pull live comps across marketplaces before you commit. ThreadFlip is designed for that moment: scan, see value, decide.
Guessing feels fast until returns and dead stock show up. A comps-first pricing habit keeps your thrift runs profitable.
